What is the Cube?
A cube is a collection of the best cards ever printed in Magic: The Gathering. If you like Magic, then you’ll love The Cube. Evan Erwin, writer for StarCityGames.com, opened my eyes to The Cube at Nationals in ’08. My buddies and I shared our Chicago-Style deep dish and he repaid the favor by inviting us to Cube Draft. It. Was. Awesome. I started building my cube the next week.
After building your cube, you divide them into packs and draft them like a regular booster draft – except all the cards are broken. The beauty of the cube is that everything could be a solid first pick. Imagine if you cracked open a booster and had to choose a first pick from one of these.

If there is one thing I’ve learned in life…it is to never, ever pass a Jitte. Typically you draft a couple colors and build a deck. When cube drafting you should draft an archetype. You have the tools to build almost any type of deck – Mid-range, white weenie, RDW, control, etc. If you are looking to learn more about cube drafting, checking out Erwin’s site, CubeDrafting.com. He has a ton of info about drafting archetypes and videos explaining how to get started. If my cube list looks similiar to Erwin’s, it not by coincidence. A lot of my card selections are shamelessly pulled from his list.
